About Kalamadhav Shaktipeeth

Amaranthak is the origin place of Narmada, one of the seven major rivers of India and Son, one of the three major Mahanadi rivers. Apart from this, its biggest identity is that it is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths located here, Shona Shaktipeeth or rather Kalmadhav Shaktipeeth. Kal Madhav Temple is one of the shakti peethas of Goddess Sati and considered a holy shrine. Once, King Daksha Prajapati performs a yagna, where all the Saints and deities are invited except Lord Shiva (Son-in-law of King Daksha) and Mother Sati (Daughter of King Daksha and wife of Lord Shiva). When Sati came to know about yagna, she went there and asked her father about the reason behind this. Then King Daksha humiliated her husband. After seeing all this, Goddess Sati immolated herself in the sacrificial fire as she can’t bear the insult of her husband. When Shiva got to know about the incident, he immediately went there in the yagna and gently held the body of Goddess Sati. Shiva starts roaming the whole universe and performed Tandava (the dance of destruction). To save the universe from the anger of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu cut the corpse of Goddess Sati into 51 pieces from his Sudarshan Chakra and spread it throughout the universe. Today, these sacred places are considered as 51 Shakti Peethas, scattered all around the Indian Subcontinent. The left buttock of the Goddess Sati fell here.
