About Maa Avantika, Bhairav Parvat Shaktipeeth

It is said that when Lord Shiva's Sudarshan Chakra cut the burnt body of Mother Sati into fifty-two pieces, his elbow fell on the Bhairav Hills. In this temple the mother is worshiped in the form of Avanti and she is protected by Bhairava Lambakarna. Many people say that it was not his elbow but his upper lip that fell there but this is much debated. Goddess Avanti is worshiped in the Bhairav Parvat Temple and is protected by Bhairav Lambakarna. Both are said to be manifestations of divine energy which together form the main force controlling the universe. Adishakti and Shiva come together to maintain balance in the universe and for goodness to prevail they must always remain together. 'Avanti' literally means humble and 'Lambakarna' means long-eared. Goddess Avanti is also called Maa Avantika and Mahakali. Incidentally, 'Lambakarna' is also said to be Ganesha, the second son of Shiva-Parvati.
